’Our first acquisition in Scotland is an exciting milestone for us,’ says retail chief executive

Brown and Brown (Europe) has acquired Scottish broker MacKay Corporate Insurance Brokers, marking its first retail acquisition in Scotland.

Founded in 1989 by Alan MacKay and his son David, the broker has built a strong regional presence across commercial and personal lines insurance.

David MacKay succeeded his father as managing director in 2011 and continues to lead the business alongside fellow directors Iain Henry and Karen Fitzgerald.

MacKay Corporate, which operates from offices in Glasgow, Ayr and Aberdeen, will become Brown and Brown’s retail hub business in Scotland and report to Neil Thornton, divisional managing director for the north.

MacKay said: “Joining Brown and Brown is an exciting new chapter for our business, our colleagues and our customers.

”Henry, Fitzgerald and I look forward to continuing to grow MacKay Corporate whilst retaining the local connectivity, knowledge and specialisation that our customers value.”

‘Exciting milestone’

Brown and Brown confirmed that all directors and employees will remain with the business and continue operating from their existing locations.

Carolyn Callan, chief executive at Brown and Brown retail, said: “We’re delighted to welcome MacKay Corporate into the Brown and Brown team and look forward to working closely with them as the team embarks on the next stage of their journey.

“Our first acquisition in Scotland is an exciting milestone for us and creates an opportunity to expand our presence significantly across the country in the future.”
