Deloitte employed contractors to handle Barclaycard PPI complaints

Barclays’ decision to handle payment protection insurance (PPI) complaints in-house has cost around 300 contractors their jobs, The Times reports.

The contractors were employed by accounting and consulting firm Deloitte to handle PPI complaints for Barclaycard and were given notice last week, the paper revealed.

Deloitte’s contract to handle the complaints was due to end in September, but it appears some contractors are being laid off early.

Barclays told The Times that it was satisfied with Deloitte’s work but had taken a business decision to move PPI complaints handling in-house.

Deloitte told the paper that a fall in the volume of complaints meant the bank no longer needed external support to handle them.
