Loss adjusters Cunningham Lindsey have been swamped with losses at the company's Taiwan offices after the island was hit by a typhoon.

Typhoon Nari has left more than 30 dead and brought the worst flooding in 50 years to the capital, Taipei. More than 90 people were yesterday missing after the typhoon brought up to 970mm of rain.

The company's offices are believed to have escaped damage.

A spokesman said about a third of the city was under water, causing power cuts and problems with drinking water supplies.

He said: “Our office in Taipei is handling a number of losses already at present. Inevitably basement premises including plant rooms have been hardest hit.”
