Optal brings in subject matter expert in automotive insurance 

Digital payments disruptor Optal has appointed David Punter as their automotive insurance expert.

Punter, the subject matter expert in automotive insurance, has over 20 years working with tech firms. 

Optal general manager Andrew Downes said: “David brings a wealth of knowledge from the automotive insurance industry. His experience will be invaluable to Optal as we look to revolutionise the sector through our innovative VAN offering.”

Optal is working for supplier payments to be made through Virtual Account Numbers (VANs): 16-digit, randomly generated numbers.

Optal says VANs reduce overheads, eliminate manual errors and boost cyber security. Optal’s processes also help with the GDPR.

 

 

 

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
