Online insurance retailer coverwell.co.uk which launched this month is extending its range of policies which are sold and processed entirely online.

The company currently offers Warranty Care which allows customers to insure up to five household, DIY or garden items, each worth up to £2,000 on one policy.

The next product to go live will be a critical illness policy, followed by a motor policy. Future products include home and credit card policies.

Richard Coppel, chief executive of Coverwell, said: "Up to now, the insurance market has been extremely inflexible, hindering the ability to amend or fine-tune policies to suit the changing needs of the customer.

"Now, by maximising the benefits of technology and the internet, Coverwell allows instant customisation of mass-market policies and can deliver modern policies, and their administration straight to the desktop."
