Eastgate has brought together a consortium of experts to provide a one-stop shop for claims arising from the millennium bug.

It provides businesses with access to a wide range of support services including cause investigation, crisis management and rectification support as well as loss assessment and quantification issues.

"By using the service customers will be able to identify whether Y2K is the cause of a claim," said spokesman Alex Wise.

"Next year there are likely to be frequent claims being put in. For insurers and brokers it is going to be important to identify the cause of the claim.

"Everything will be provided through a single helpline.

"We believe this is the first time these skills have been brought together in one package.

"It is something that could well be extended beyond Y2K claims."

The service will be available to insurers, brokers and other risk carriers. Eastgate and CCS Global will be the project managers.

The members of consortium are:
Deloitte & Touche – financial claims management
Kennedys – legal services
Moore-Harvey International – computer engineering
RB Hawkins & Associates – forensic scientists
The Power Station Consultancy – crisis communications
Campos & Stratis – investigating consultancy
Babtie Group – engineering consultancy
APW – loss adjusters
CCS Global – loss adjusters and project managers.
