A law firm, regulated by the Law Society, has been set up to operate on the internet.

FirstLAW will work with clients to select the right law firm for their needs. It also oversees the case at all stages of proceedings and works as a second opinion to either party at any time.

Anthony Armitage, chief executive of the new company, has been in practice in the City of London since 1998. His has worked at both Allen Overy and Davies Arnold Cooper.

He said: "FirstLAW truly represents a sea change in the client/lawyer relationship offering financial and operational benefits to both parties. It is important to understand that FirstLAW is not just a law firm with a web page and FirstLAW is not just a legal broker.

"For clients, its like having a hotshot legal buddy. For lawyers, its like having a screening service that directs only the most suitable business to your door."
