Talanx in push to enter Irish market, according to report

Germany's third-largest insurer, Talanx, could be set to bid for Quinn Insurance in a move to enter the Irish general insurance market under the HDI Gerling brand.

According to a report in the Irish Sunday Tribune, a source claimed that HDI Gerling could be a better fit for Quinn Insurance than other companies rumoured to be interested, such as Liberty Mutual or Finland's Sampo.

The company is believed to be awaiting authorisation from the Financial Regulator. The regulator said it does not comment on individual applications for authorisation.

HDI Gerling offers property, liability, accident and motor insurance through its property and casualty business.

HDI Gerling property and casualty contributed more than €6bn in premiums to Talanx last year, accounting for nearly 30% of the group's premium income.
