Higos increases value of home emergency cover

Higos Insurance Services has increased the value of its home emergency cover allowing policyholders to claim more for home assistance or major appliance breakdown.

The change means policyholders can now make up to three claims to the value of £500 each per year, more than double the value allowed previously.

The plan covers not only emergencies causing damage to the policyholder’s property, but also the cost of repairs to major appliances including:

- A gas or electric cooker or microwave oven

- Fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher

- TV, video player, DVD or hi-fi system

“We are now able to offer policyholders even more value by covering claims up to £500,” said Ian Gosden, managing director of Higos.

“This enhancement means we are providing an even more cost effective way to cover emergencies, especially when you consider the cost of breakdown services from major utility providers.

“It also means policyholders will not be at the mercy of high street prices when having their major appliances repaired.”

Home Emergency Cover offers a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week Helpline, based in the UK, which will send a skilled engineer or suitable tradesperson where a breakdown is causing damage to the property, including:

- Internal or external plumbing and drainage

- Water, electricity and gas supply

- Boiler and central heating systems

- Roofing, downpipes or guttering

- Door and window locks

Higos also covers pest infestation as part of the plan, arranging their removal or eradication. In addition, it will pay for one night’s accommodation up to the value of £250 if the policyholder’s house is considered uninhabitable as a result of the emergency.
