Government decision expected next week
The government, which is expected to make a decision on pleural plaques next week, has come under fresh pressure not to compensate sufferers after a review concluded they should be ineligible for disability benefit.
The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC) said pleural plaques sufferers should not be included in the list of industrial injuries that receive disability benefit. The Department for Work and Pensions has accepted the findings of the review.
