’Classic car ownership is changing,’ says chief executive
Ripe has launched a dedicated classic car insurance product following growth in the UK market across 2026.

Ripe Classic Cars covers classic, modern classic and collectible vehicles and is underwritten by specialist motor insurer ERS.
Customers can obtain a quote, purchase and manage their policy online, while UK-based specialist support is also available.
The launch comes as the UK classic car insurance market continues to expand, rising above its pre-pandemic peak of £786m recorded in 2019 to £835.9m in 2026.
Ripe chief executive Alan Thomas said the company was responding to a shift in how consumers view classic cars.
“Classic car ownership is changing,” he said.
“We’re seeing a new generation of enthusiasts entering the market through modern classics, while more owners want to get out and enjoy their cars rather than simply viewing them as investments.”
Digital-first approach
Claims will be handled by specialists with knowledge of classic cars, while repairs will be carried out through a network focused on returning vehicles to their original condition.

The product has been built using Ripe’s proprietary Juice underwriting and distribution platform, which the MGA said enables it to develop products quickly and provide simpler digital journeys.
Thomas added: “We see a real opportunity to bring our digital-first approach to a growing market and make specialist insurance simpler and more accessible for classic car owners, backed by nearly 30 years of expertise.”
Ripe reported turnover of £24.9m in 2025, representing 21% year-on-year growth. The business has also continued its M&A strategy, including the acquisition of holiday homes insurance specialist Schofields.
