Royal & SunAlliance and Munich Re will be the lead insurers for the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) announced this week.

The two insurers will provide half of the project-wide construction insurance and just over half the primary third party liability cover.

The remaining cover will be provided at varying levels across a number of packages by 13 other co-insurers, including Ace European Insurance Group, Norwich Union, QBE, Brit Insurance, CNA and AIG.

The cover was placed by insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said: “Securing project wide insurance directly is a smart and cost-effective way of making sure our work to deliver the venues and infrastructure

for the London 2012 Games is underpinned with straight-forward, high-quality cover.”
