Standard terms allow comparisons, with variations explained

The Times has published a letter calling on the Office of Fair Trading to approve standard terms for travel insurance policies with any variations pointed out before sale.

Robin Parsons, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, wrote: “Model terms and conditions could be drawn up by representatives of the insurance industry and approved for fairness and plain English by the Office of Fair Trading.

“An insurer would be permitted to deviate from the standard form, but if it did so it would be required to demonstrate that it had brought to the consumer’s attention before he or she purchased the cover in what respects the terms of the cover differed from the standard.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
