Paul Dowling to head renewable energy and construction practice

CNA Insurance Company has appointed Paul Dowling as head of its newly-created European Renewable Energy and Construction practice.

Dowling joins CNA Europe from XL Insurance Company, where he spent seven years as regional underwriting manager for its energy practice in London. In this role, he established and developed a specialist energy hub underwriting department covering all European and Asia Pacific territories, and sat on the UK and regional management boards.

Prior to XL, Dowling worked for Hartford Steam Boiler as regional senior underwriter, based in London, before the acquisition by AIG following which he had sole responsibility for energy business in Central Europe & C.I.S., the Mediterranean, the Middle East and South Asia writing a broad range of classes of energy business. He has also worked as an associate director at Aon and began his career at Cunningham Hart.
