Following on from part 1, part 2 and part 3 of our sector-by-sector rundown of the top 20 personalities in the claims arena, here is our final instalment: our picks for the up-and-coming individuals in claims in 2011.

Tony Peppard

Managing director of claims, AXA Insurance Personal Lines

Age: 52; years in industry: 27

Who? Peppard was managing director (CSG) of Churchill Insurance; and founder and managing director of the AXA-owned SIMS Claims Services. Following AXA’s recent restructure of its commercial and personal lines businesses, he will oversee claims in the personal lines division. As the current head of claims David Williams moves to AXA’s new commercial division, Peppard has some big shoes to fill - taking responsibility for all claims in personal lines.

Notable achievement: Developing a low-cost claims service for Swiftcover, cementing its success as the first online insurer.

Importance in 2011: Peppard’s new role will put him firmly in the spotlight. Major challenges include managing claims inflation and building on AXA’s firm anti-credit hire stance.

Donna Claydon

Head of UK casualty claims, QBE

Age: 33; years in industry: 16

Who? Claydon entered the industry in 1995 becoming the liability claims operations manager for four years at Axa. She went on to become head of travel, creditor, and lifestyle claims with responsibility for 130 staff across multiple locations.This year she has made the move to QBE, where she will head the insurer’s casualty claims department.

Notable achievement: At 25, Claydon was the youngest UK manager to be given charge of a specific claims area.

Importance in 2011: Claydon is widely recognized by the industry’s leading claims directors as the one to watch for the future.

Brendan Keane

Head of UK Insurance Development, Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Age: 34; years in industry: 11

Who? Keane joined Enterprise Rent-A-Car in 1995, and was promoted to branch manager in 1998. In May 2000, he took responsibility for the east London and Essex region before taking his current role as head of insurance development for the UK.

Notable achievement: Keane is leading the way when it comes to developing viable alternatives to the controversial credit hire model.

Importance in 2011: Keane’s pioneering of a new business model in the car rental market could finally wave a white flag in the long-running feud between insurers and credit hire operators.
