A round-up of the latest insurance stories online

That old chestnut that is Quinn Insurance might not be producing the same volume of breaking news as it was a month or two ago, but a mention of Quinn can still cause a spike in online traffic at insurancetimes.co.uk.

Online readers went clicking mad over our story, picked up from the Irish press, detailing a possible price hike of up to 3,000% for some of Quinn's UK business lines. This news joins a long list of Quinn-related stories that have held the top spot on our online top 10 in recent weeks.

Our online subscribers also logged on in large numbers after the email detailing the shock departure of Lorega chief executive John Sims landed in their inbox. It prompted one online reader to comment: “Is Lorega living up to its own tag line, ‘The Changing Face of Claims’?! Good luck John, you were certainly the face of Lorega.”

Then followed a glut of stories of acquisitions as a number of firms, including Capita, Bluefin and Gallagher, got out their chequebooks.

Elsewhere on the web, the Pru's on/off takeover of AIG unit AIA received a stack of coverage, both here and across the pond.

As did Aon's launch of its four-year shirt sponsorship of Manchester United. One website – soccerlens.com – listed facts about the mega broker for footy stat fans. One read: “In the UK, over five billion pints of milk a year are supplied by companies insured through Aon.” (See tinyurl.com/Aon-facts)

On the subject of football, don't forget to sign up to our fantasy football South Africa tournament and pick your team all the way to the final for a chance to win some special prizes.
