A round-up of the latest insurance stories online

This year’s Insurance Times Top 50 Brokers supplement landed on to the website with a bang. Web traffic soared, particularly when we gave our online subscribers a preview of this year's rankings. Our extra coverage, including the interactive table, was also a massive hit with subscribers.

It was no surprise this week that our story covering Zurich's £2.275m fine for a data loss dating back to 2008 was the most popular story with our online readers. Time and time again these stories of FSA enforcement have appeared prominently in the Weblog top 10.

Details of the incident first came to light in October 2009 when the story also created a huge spike in web traffic. It was back again when the Information Commissioner’s Office found Zurich Insurance in breach of the Data Protection Act in March and resurfaced last week when our online readers piled on to the site. Zurich's statement on the fine, in which chief executive Stephen Lewis called the incident “unacceptable”, also got plenty of clicks.

The website also offered another massive story, detailing an FSA investigation into Equity Red Star relating to the impact of bodily injury claims on its balance sheet.

Our other exclusive subscriber content attracted plenty of attention too, in particular the article offering an analyst's view of how a merger between RSA and Aviva might take shape.

Elsewhere on the site, our Fair Fees campaign builds on its pulsating start as online readers logged onto the site for the latest update. The campaign has registered even more support in recent days and you can still sign the online petition by visiting insurancetimes.co.uk/backfairfees.
