A round-up of the latest insurance stories online

Our website moved into fifth gear this week as traffic spiked in response to some massive stories that we reported first online.

Finishing top of a closely fought most-read list was our story responding to a court ruling in the long-running credit hire case involving England footballer Darren Bent. Last year, two stories connected to this case appeared in the top 10. This time, again, the story became a clicking success.

There was another huge surge in web traffic when we revealed that JLT had been ordered to pay £1.75m to the owners of Camden Market, in connection with a fire that caused £6m worth of damage in 2008. The story appeared in last week’s magazine, but attracted thousands of clicks from online users.

News that Auto Windscreens had fallen into administration was widely reported on the web. On our site, online readers learned how insurers began switching business to rival firms as a sale loomed.

Xchanging, another firm with a massive footprint in the insurance sector, has also been making headlines. We reported how the outsourcer wrote to the London market to reassure senior heads in the wake of a profits warning that threatened its future.

The latest round of RSA takeover speculation linked Zurich with a bid for the in-demand insurer. RSA’s share price rose slightly as the latest talk bubbled around the stock markets.

Online subscribers were also treated to an exclusive Q&A with Admiral chief executive Henry Engelhardt. Subscribers also read how Willis has become the latest broker to push for a 1.5% commission uplift from underwriters.
