Company history:
Fortis Insurance came into being in April 2000 with the integration of Bishopsgate Insurance and Northern Star Insurance Company. In 1999 the two companies represented £390.3m in gross written premium. The benefits were not just financial. The company can now deliver a wider range of products and an absolute commitment to the intermediary channel.

Biography:
Peter Robinson was born in 1940. He was educated at Brighton Hove & Sussex Grammar School. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

From 1959 to1967 he was at the Mercantile & General Reinsurance Comapny. Between 1967 and 1983 he worked for Excess Insurance Group, holding various positions and becoming director of International Operations from 1981 to1983.

In 1984 he became chief executive of Bishopsgate Insurance. He was appointed managing director of AMEV (UK) in 1987 (name changed to Fortis in June 1992)
