History: SBJ was founded in 1977 and became a stock exchange-listed company in 1985. Chief executive George Boden and colleagues launched a successful management buy-out in December 1998.

During 1999, non-core businesses were disposed of through sale and, in 2001, management and staff bought out their venture capital shareholders. Turnover is split 63% corporate and 37% London and international market.

For the 2001 year of account fee and commission income was £46.6m and pre-tax profit was £36.1m. The accounts have yet to be filed.

History: The BMS Group is an independent, employee-owned broking and advisory organisation founded in 1980. The founding company of the group, Ballantyne McKean & Sullivan, is a specialist North American non-marine treaty reinsurance broker, and was admitted as a Lloyd's broker in 1984.

Since then, a programme of expansion and diversification has seen the formation and acquisition of several further specialist broking units, including the acquisition in 1997 of BMS Harris & Dixon Insurance Brokers, itself one of the longest-established broking firms in the world.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
