History: Denis M Clayton was founded in 1972 by Denis Clayton and the current chairman John Goldsmith. The company remains an impendent privately-held Lloyd's broker.

Biography: Goldsmith began his career as a reinsurance broker trainee in 1966 with Alexander Howden & Co. He went on to join Bradstock Blunt Crawley in 1970 and was co-founder of his current company, which commenced operations in December 1972. He is member of the London Market Insurance Brokers' Committee (LMBC) and is current chairman of the Brokers' Reinsurance committee of the LMBC.

Major shareholders: 100% subsidiary of the ultimate holding company, Clayton Group. The ownership is entirely with the directors and employees.
Main lines of business: North American treaty and excess of loss reinsurance, London Market reinsurance, alternative risk transfer business and US and Canadian insurance contracts.
