History: UIB (United Insurance Brokers Ltd) is a fast growing niche Lloyd's insurance broker specialising in energy, aviation, space, construction, marine, financial institutions, reinsurance and political risks. Formed in 1987 by a breakaway of Marsh & McClennan focusing on North Africa and the Middle East, UIB has grown from its traditional roots in construction and energy insurance to encompass most major risks in most parts of the world.

To support the growth, UIB now has interests in 15 overseas locations. As a member of the Independent Brokers Association (IBA), UIB is additionally represented in a further 100 countries. Although traditionally strong in North Africa, Middle East and Japan, UIB is now spreading in Europe, the Indian sub-continent, Asia and the Far East. Biography: Bassem Kabban, grew up in the Lebanon and joined Marsh & McClennan in London in 1976 and was a founding member of the management buyout in 1987. His core expertise in marine cargo and oil shipments developed into aviation and energy with the company growth. When appointed managing director in 1998 he not only brought leadership skills but also a detailed technical working knowledge of the insurance industry. Kabban is a member of the board of the IBA network and lectures on many aspects of insurance, speaks Arabic and has a working knowledge of Japanese.
