Year established: 1882

History: The original company was founded in 1882 as a Lloyd's Name Agency and now operates as a fully independent insurance broker. A management buyout from Hiscox was completed in March 1999 and the company qualified as a Lloyd's broker in July that year. With offices in Bedford, London, Salisbury, Exeter, Taunton and Scotland, and soon in Chester and Bermuda, we are strategically placed to be able to offer a national and local personal service. Its presence in Europe is well-established in the specialist fine art market in Paris and Madrid.

Since 1999, it has a North American operation which enables it to provide for the comprehensive insurance needs of multinational companies on a global scale. Today, it represents the interests of a broad cross section of business and society, with five main operating divisions.

Commercial - While its business was originally UK based, it now operates worldwide with clients in Europe, Asia, US and Canada.

Farms and estates - This division was the company's original core activity, stemming from its business as Names Agents for Lloyd's. It acts for many landowners, farmers and tenants in the country.

High value homes - Specialising in large houses and their contents, providing bespoke contracts that are wide-ranging in their protection.

Fine art - This highly specialised area of operation requires special arrangements which are available for private art collectors, museums, art galleries and auction houses worldwide.

Wholesale in the US and Canada - Specialised property insurance for major North American national and multi-national corporate clients. Also, from 1 January 2003, a division was created that specialises in providing solutions for the tougher classes of casualty exposures.
