Capita will make up to 70 staff redundant at its Portsmouth office by the end of the month.

A Capita spokeswoman said the company was currently in consultation with staff and would make every effort to find them positions in other Capita offices.

The Portsmouth office houses support services such as claims management and customer service to insurance companies.

The spokeswoman said the office would not be closed completely, but downsized.

The decision to make redundancies came about following a strategic review of Capita's operations.

"As any business does, we're always looking to improve our efficiency and offer better service to our clients," she said.

In March last year, 25 staff were redeployed or made redundant at Capita's Sittingbourne office.
