Young men who want to get cheaper motor insurance should take the plunge and get married, says telebroker Peoples Choice.

In its recent survey, entitled Premium Watch, premiums were shown to have risen by 18.1% since last September. That is an average total of £53.54 for each policy.

The survey overviews 143 different motor insurance rates, represented by 11 motorists depicting a wide range of the nation's drivers.

Peoples Choice has put together some guidelines on how to slice pounds off the cost of their motor insurance.

The main points are: keeping your car safe, protecting your no claims discount, insure for a named driver, have low mileage, be female or older or, finally, be a young male and married.
