Ex-Amlin man Paul Mortlock to cover corporate tax issues as well as strategic input into a range of general insurance tax areas

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) has appointed Paul Mortlock to join its tax team, with particular focus on corporate tax and financial services products.

As well as corporate tax issues, Mortlock's tax policy role will cover strategic input into a range of general insurance tax areas. Paul joins from insurers Amlin, where he was tax manager. Prior to that he worked for accountancy firms PwC and Robson Rhodes.

Mortlock said: “I’m looking forward to working on a range of tax issues affecting the insurance industry, which pays the third highest amount of corporation tax of any industry.”

Sarah Knight, the ABI’s Assistant Director of Taxation, said: "Paul will make a major contribution to the ABI, working with the Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs to ensure the insurance industry’s interests and contributions are recognised.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
