The ABI began consulting with general insurers this week on the re-wording of its general terms of agreement (GTA) on credit hire and credit repair.

The body sent out for approval a recommended version of the GTA, which sets out the arrangements between subscribers for the provision of replacement vehicles to third party motorists involved in accidents that were not their fault and the undertaking of repairs.

The current version of the GTA has been in place since 2001.

The document needs to be revised “to clarify areas of ambiguity, provide more guidance, speed up claim settlement and reduce the cost built into the GTA to process claims and resolve disputes,” the ABI said.
