The ABI is to hold an action day to address the insurance crisis blighting the volunteer sector.

Organisers hope the event, to be held on 11 July at Loughborough University, will help the voluntary sector improve its risk assessment procedures.

ABI head of general insurance John Parker said: "This action day aims to enhance better understanding of risk management among voluntary and charity groups, as well as improving insurers' understanding of the voluntary sector."

Daniel Maskell, scheme development executive at broker Stuart Alexander, said: "We are looking to work with the ABI on this and want to help them with advice they are giving to charities.

"Unfortunately insurers have started treating charities with a more commercial eye and we've been going out to charities to help them conduct a full risk assessment for them to handle these
pressures."
