Teams of loss adjusters have begun the task of assessing the cost of the blaze that engulfed parts of historic Edinburgh over the weekend.

Cunningham Lindsey said it had been instructed, adding some claims were "fairly significant". Allan McNeilage, commercial regional director for Scotland, said : "Owners of commercial properties with no physical damage may claim because they cannot get access."

A GAB Robins spokeswoman said only two historic buildings had been damaged. "These contain many small pubs and clubs, so there are likely to be many smaller claims."
