In a landslide vote members of the Association of Insurance Intermediaries and Brokers (Aiib) have voted to merge with the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).

The decision was made at Aiib's extraordinary general meeting last week.

Aiib members will formally become BIBA members on 12 April 2002.

Chairman Mike Slack said he felt the merger would be good for the membership and the industry.

He added: "Our industry faces greater challenges than ever before and if we are to prosper it is essential that the intermediary and broker sector is represented by a strong and united professional body."

Mike Slack will now be joining the BIBA board where he will be responsible for SMEs.
