The AiiB has joined the fray over Direct Line's takeover of roadside assistance company Green Flag.

The organisation says it is concerned that Direct Line will have access to a huge customer database, many of them clients of brokers who placed personal lines business with CGU or Zurich, which have contracts with Green Flag.

AiiB director Laurie de Mel said the Green Flag purchase was "a classic example of a direct operator purchasing a customer base in order to expand its own business".

Last week legal expenses insurer DAS also warned brokers of the dangers of Direct Line's buy-out of Green Flag.
