New legislation places strong requirements on commercial property owners, landlords and managers

Allianz Engineering is holding a series of presentations for brokers that could help companies avoid large fines for breaching new energy regulations for buildings.

The meetings follow an Allianz survey that revealed 66% of brokers did not feel supported by insurers over the regulations.

The legislation, which came into force last month, requires every commercial property owner, landlord or manager to provide an energy performance certificate on construction, sale or lease of the property.

Firms and landlords that fail to comply face a £5,000 fine.

In October 2008, public buildings were also required to display energy certificates in a place clearly visible to the public.

Allianz Engineering special services manager Steve Ford said: “The regulations will be policed far more closely over the coming months.

“Brokers can play a crucial role in helping clients avoid costly fines – which are the last thing businesses want to face in the current economic climate.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
