The Association of Personal Injury Investigators (APII) is aiming to become the professional body for accident investigators.

Set up in association with the College of Personal Injury Investigators (CPII), the APII is currently in negotiations with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to allow its members to become associate members of the FSB.

Associate membership would allow the APII to set a basic hourly rate for its investigators, APII chairman Dean Hyde said. APII members had to meet a minimum qualification requirement and partake of further training and examination to maintain their membership, he said.

It also has a disciplinary procedure for members. The APII currently has about 40 members.
