Audatex, a supplier of computerised damage estimating packages for car bodyshops, claims motor insurers are losing money due to poor estimating techniques on damaged vehicles.

Managing director Alex Leonard criticised the common practice of re-estimating. "Many estimators still create assessments based on picking lists and opinion times, but when work actually starts, more often than not there is more work than first predicted.

"It increases the work load and cost to insurance companies having to deal with the burden of extra administration," he added.
