Coconut trees in Australia are getting the chop because local councils fear they may spark insurance claims. The councils are concerned that people hit by falling coconuts will try to sue them for damages.
Authorities along the Queensland coast are replacing the trees with a "less dangerous" species.
Australia's Local Government Association said all the palm trees would be gradually replaced - a process that is cheaper and more effective than removing the coconuts from the trees.
The association added that it was concerned about spiralling insurance claims and a burgeoning claims culture.
