Aviva shareholders expressed dismay at the company's reliance on outsourced activities at the insurer's AGM today.

One shareholder said of Norwich Union's India-based call centres: “There is a degree of incompetence here that is a serious problem. Outsourcing should be looked at for its customer service failures and not just any financial savings.”

Another simply said: “The call centres in India are useless.”

Finance director Andrew Moss also came under attack for receiving a substantial bonus despite having only been with the company for seven months.
