Aviva is facing a potential backlash over the decision to outsource 1,000 jobs to India, according to reports over the weekend.
One newspaper said Aviva's senior managment had seen a report which had found that 51% of customers were "appalled" by call centres based abroad before the insurer had taken its decision.
Trade unions have been infuriated by the move which was announced last week.
A spokesperson for the union Amicus was quoted as saying that the union would be fighting the redundancies with "whatever it takes, including putting political pressure on them".
Reports said the union will also consider raising funds for a campaign to boycott Aviva products.
