Aviva has hired Phil Pavitt as IT transformation director.

He will report to Aviva’s chief operations officer Cathryn Riley when he joins the company on 7 January 2013.

The new role will see Pavitt directing Aviva’s IT change programme across the group.

Aviva said in a statement he will be responsible for rationalising and simplifying its IT, adopting a modern digital architecture, improving service to customers and reducing IT revenue and capital expense costs.

Pavitt was previously general director of change at HM Revenue & Customs.

Riley said: “IT is central to our business and, like the transformation we are going through across Aviva, requires a step change (in what and how we deliver) in order to meet the needs of our customers. I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Phil Pavitt in this pivotal role as we simplify and modernise our IT estate.”
