Aviva will axe 200 jobs in its Manchester offices later this year as part of its group-wide plans to cut 2,000 roles.

Staff were told yesterday that its Albert Square motor injuries claims team would be outsourced to Bangalore, India, on 20 December.

An Aviva spokesperson said: “Our claims teams have been briefed on changes affecting them. We do not take these decisions lightly and we appreciate this will be a tough time for those people affected by today’s announcement. We will do all we can to support them through this process.”

In April, Aviva announced plans to axe about 2,000 roles across its global group in an effort to save more than £400m.

The Norwich-based insurance group has also announced that redundancy pay will be halved from four weeks per year of service to two.
