Insurance chairman joins coalition Business Advisory Group

Business secretary Vince Cable has named Aviva chairman Lord Sharman as a member of his Business Advisory Group.

The members are:

Lord Sharman - Chairman of Aviva plc. He is former Chairman of KPMG International and is a Liberal Democrat Business Spokesman in the House of Lords.

Professor John Kay - visiting Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics. He is a former Chairman of London Economics and has held chairs at the London Business School and Oxford University. He specialises in the application of economics to business problems.

Rachel Lomax - non- Executive Director of HSBC. She is a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of England and a former Vice President of the World Bank, and former Permanent Secretary at the Welsh Office, Department of Work and Pensions and Department of Transport.

Vicky Pryce CB - Chief Economic Adviser and Director General at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service. She will formally join the group later this summer when she rejoins the private sector as Senior Managing Director at FTI.

Members are unpaid and provide their advice in a personal capacity. They will continue to work for their current organisations.

The group will be chaired by Lord Oakeshott of Seagrove Bay.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
