Missing Airbus A330 with 228 passengers insured by Axa

French insurer AXA said on Tuesday it was the lead insurer for the Air France jetliner that vanished during a storm with 228 people on board, Reuters reports.

"We are the lead insurer. At the moment, the priority for us is to be available for Air France and the victims," said an AXA spokesman in Paris. He declined further comment on the situation.

The Airbus A330 went missing on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on Monday morning.
