I must take you to task in respect of the photograph of the motor car you chose to illustrate 'Frankenstein Cars' (Letters, 2 June).

De Lorean parts are some of the most expensive and innovative around. The doors alone used F16 fighter jet technology.

As for costs, door components range from £10 to £1,000 and wings up to £500. The sum of the replacement parts may well exceed the value of the car itself, but this would not preserve the motoring heritage.

How many mass-produced cars could this apply to today?
