Greystoke Legal Services has cleared the way for 100 patients to win up to £10m compensation from the NHS for contracting hepatitis C from tainted blood transfusions.

The after-the-event legal insurance provider enabled one of the patients, Jane Lindley from Nottinghamshire, to bring a test case against the National Blood Authority. She won £200,000.

As with the other victims, Lindley contracted hepatitis C from a blood transfusion given during a routine operation.

Her successful action opens the way for the remaining affected patients to obtain compensation for the condition.

Lindley was refused legal aid to fight the case, but was able to bring her case to court using Greystoke's litigation funding and legal expenses product, LawAssist.
