More than 120 car dealers have signed up to sell BDML Connect's import insurance product in the six months since it was launched.

BDML managing director Sandy Dunn said 82% of the dealers were not import specialists, but valued having the ability to offer a speciality insurance product to their customers on the occasions they did have an import on their forecourts.

The import insurance offers uninsured loss recovery, RAC breakdown cover and optional warranty cover plus links with a network of specialist bodyshops.

“What's more, dealers will receive a generous commission from each policy sold,” Dunn said.

He said a Masterquote survey showed 45% of drivers would not consider buying an import, even for a substantial saving, because of concerns about insurance.

“By offering a specialist import insurance product, dealers can reassure potential customers on the simple insurance process for these models,” Dunn said.
