The Benfield Hazard Research Centre has created a part-time postgraduate certificate course called Natural Hazards for Insurers.

The course, which has been developed in collaboration with the Under 35s reinsurance group, is tailored to the needs of the insurance market and, in particular, those involved in catastrophe insurance and reinsurance.

It is comprised of three modules taught over 10 months, in three eight-week blocks. Two taught modules will focus on Geological & Geotechnical Hazards and Meteorological Hazards, while the third will involve preparation of an independent report.

Teaching is flexible to minimise out-of-office time.

The course is the first academic course to be accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute. Elements of the course will be taught in common with parts of the new Masters/Diploma programme in Geophysical Hazards.
