Besso describes 2006 as "an extremely positive year" as profits treble to £4.3m...

Besso has today provided an update on trading prior to the publication of its audited results for the year ended 31 December 2006 which are expected to be published in April 2007.

The group described 2006 as “extremely positive” with profit before tax almost trebling to £4,267,000 (2005: £1,440,000). All areas of the group made contributions ahead of forecast with particularly strong performance in Besso's US property division, an improvement at CBC, the Lloyd's broker acquired by Besso in November 2003, as well as the marine and international divisions, all of which were ahead of forecast.

Commenting on the performance, Colin Bird, executive chairman of Besso, said: “These are extremely exciting times for Besso. The industry is in a state of change at the moment – for some this is a threat, for others an opportunity. On the back of our renewed performance and strengthened management team, we intend to maximise the full potential of the opportunities that we believe are open to us in this market.

“We have an excellent client base, a strong team and look forward to the coming year with renewed excitement and vigour.”
