North East Chamber of Commerce awards portfolio comprising 1,000 lives

BHSF, the Birmingham-based national healthcare insurance intermediary, has added a leading Chamber of Commerce to its portfolio of clients.

The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) has awarded their Wellbeing cash plan to BHSF, whose national headquarters are in Ladywood. They supply employee benefits to over 2,900 client companies covering a total of 380,000 people.

The new contract was negotiated by Premier Choice Group, who have had a relationship with the NECC for almost five years, looking after a number of their commercial products like the NECC Heathcare Trust and NECC Income Protect as well as the cash plan.

Premier Choice Group’s business development director Tom McGuinness said: “The new arrangement with BHSF will give us an opportunity to take the cash plan forward.

“It has about 1,000 lives on it and is run on an affinity basis. So if a company is a member of NECC they can join the Cash Plan Scheme with benefits and at a cost that they could not get on a direct basis unless they were a substantial size.

“BHSF were fantastic in accommodating the requests of the members, the NECC and ourselves.”

Peter Maskell, BHSF’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have NECC on board. Chambers of Commerce generally are an area where we are planning to grow our business.”

The expanding not-for-profit company recently announced that it was on the lookout for more companies to merge with or buy after completing its second acquisition in the past six years.

The healthcare insurer took over Forester Health, a Kent-based company with 53,000 health cash plan and physiotherapy insurance policyholders, from the end of last year.

BHSF will be expanding its operation by using surplus space at its Ladywood headquarters to take on at least seven new staff as well as two sales executive transfers from Forester Health.

BHSF covers health costs from eye tests and dental treatment to physiotherapy, childbirth, personal accident and stress management, from as little as £4.33 per month. Blue chip clients include Cadbury’s, Asda, Land Rover, Sainsbury’s, MG Rover and Birmingham City Council.
