New hire to underwrite political violence and aviation war related risks

Brit Insurance has expanded its war and terrorism insurance team with the appointment of Charles Barrett as terrorism underwriter.

Barrett will be responsible for underwriting political violence and aviation war related risks across Brit Insurance’s worldwide war and terrorism portfolio.

He will be based in London and will report to Russell Kennedy, class underwriter, war and terrorism.

Barrett was previously at Willis, where he was most recently vice president for the North American terrorism practice.

Brit's global markets chief executive, Matthew Wilson, said: “Charles’ specialist knowledge of the global war and terrorism market will complement and broaden our existing underwriting capabilities in this important area of our global markets portfolio."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
