Brit Insurance has recruited Mark Cassidy, a self-funded medical underwriter, who is expected to bring in at least £30m of premium income to Brit over the next 12 months.
Cassidy joins from St Paul's Lloyd's Syndicate 5000.
His speciality is US specific and aggregate medical insurance.
It is understood that Cassidy joined Brit because he was offered a larger capital allocation than that received at St Paul.
Brit chief executive Dane Douetil said that US specific and aggregate insurance was a very attractive class of business.
"It's non-volatile and it's not exposed to terrorism and earthquakes," he said.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
