The AXA PPP healthcare-sponsored British Indoor Rowing Championship, which took place on 15 November, saw Olympic champions James Cracknell, above left, and Matthew Pinsent battle for first place in the Men's Open event.

The team-mates competed over 2,000m with Pinsent stepping up the pace in the final metres to beat Cracknell by two seconds. The event included official trials for the British rowing squad for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Pinsent and Cracknell's former team-mate, Sir Steve Redgrave, provided commentary throughout the day.
